After the majority of Input Output's proposals got funded, let's take a look at - what's actually being built - & which new features we can expect over the coming year and beyond [Spoken audio]: For the last couple of months we've had so many treasury debates, but instead of talking about all the drama for the hundreds time, let's talk about which proposals actually passed, what was spending treasury money on and of course what all of this could mean for Kedano going forward. Hi, I'm Linda and if you'd like to see more content like this, make sure to give me a follow or support me by sticking to my Malo Pool on Kedano. And remember that this is not financial advice, always do your own research. season is still in full swing, at least for another few days. And I don't know about you, but I need a break from reading arguments on X at 4am. So without going deeper into who is right and who is wrong and whether the price tag is justified, let's talk about what input output is planning on delivering after the majority of their proposals received funding. First up is the I.O. Consensus Initiative. At the center of this proposal is Laos. Laos is one of Cardano's scaling solutions and it's needed if we want to handle the kind of activity that we want to see on the chain. So after years of the community demanding better scalability, this proposal will finally push Laos out of Tesla territory and toward mainnet readiness. The goal is to increase Cardano's throughput by somewhere between 10 to 65 times. And it's really important to do that while still preserving decentralization and keeping stake pool operator costs low. Because those are two of the biggest challenges when we want to scale in a sustainable way. The more transaction a network can process, the higher the hardware requirements for stake pool operators, and finding that balance will be really crucial. We don't want to see more small stake pool operators shutting down because they simply can't afford it anymore. And yes, yes, a 10 to 65 times improve in speed is quite a wild range. But basically right now, a big portion of the system actually remains idle during block propagation, which keeps TPS low. So to fight this, Laos is introducing parallel processing, which is quite an interesting concept. And I personally was super happy to see this proposal getting funding, because we really do need it if we want a more vibrant DeFi ecosystem and solve real-world problems like we were set out to do. One thing to also keep in mind is that Leos doesn't throw away Ouroboros Preos, it actually builds on top of it. Alright, so next up is the Cadano Upgrades Proposal. This one brings several upgrades with it and they all try to solve different problems. One part revolves around the SIP159 account address enhancements. I know the first reaction is probably, what the hell does that even mean? Now, without getting too deep into the technical details, SIP 159 removes some existing limitations around how wallets and applications can handle small payments. According to the proposal, that would unlock new revenue models for wallets, reduce costs for batches and aggregators, and create building blocks that are needed for future layer 2 solutions as well as other advanced applications. So with this, we may see new products, wallet features and infrastructure that become possible because of it. The second part of the proposal focuses on the multi-asset treasury concept. And I'm a huge huge fan of that. And I know a lot of you are too. Because right now the treasury is fundamentally tied to ADA. And while some people might see that as a positive, the truth is that budgeting around a single volatile asset comes with some very obvious challenges. So the idea here is to allow Treasury reserves and future budgeting mechanisms to support multiple asset types, including stablecoins. So hopefully we can convert some gains into stablecoins at some point and make Treasury planning a lot less chaotic. The last part are Babel fees, a topic that we've been talking about since forever. I think we're already talking about this back in 2021. The idea behind Babel fees is that it allows you to pay for transaction fees with other assets instead of ADA. So let's talk about a few examples where bevel fees could be useful. Let's say you're coming over from Bitcoin to Kidano and instead of relying on ADA, you could just use BTC to pay for transaction fees. But it could also make meme coins a guest token for example and give them some utility on Kidano. Or let's look at gaming. Instead of using ADA, you could just use that game's token for in-game transactions. If implemented properly, this could significantly improve onboarding and the general usage of the chain. Now, some of you might be saying, hey, wait a minute, hasn't Fluor tokens already implemented Babel fees? And yes, they have. It's already alive and used on the mainnet. But it has some constraints. Because you always need a little bit of ADA in your wallet as collateral. So, while it looks like you don't have to spend any ADA, you still need it in your wallet. And I believe that's what IO wants to overcome. But if you want to create debt and pay the fees with stable coins or other tokens, Fluor tokens has built aquarium for that. Now moving on, we have the high assurance technical collaboration proposal. And this one is peak Kedano stuff. One of the biggest challenges in crypto is that smart contract bugs can be incredibly expensive. In every cycle, we see chains get nuked by exploits, bridges evaporate and smart contracts getting drained. I mean, just look at what's been happening in these past few months. And with AI, it's going to get much, much worse. So there are basically two work streams in this proposal. But what it essentially comes down to is doubling down on Kedano security by making formal verification tools more accessible to developers. They'll expand iOS Blaster verification tool from verifying individual smart contracts to verifying entire DApps. It'll add tools that can help developers identify potential vulnerabilities before going live. And it also adds support for multiple Kedano smart contract languages. Now the second workstream is that right now setting up a complete development environment can be pretty time consuming and complex. So this proposal creates a pre-configured environment with testing, analysis, verification, and profiling tools. This proposal isn't just IO doing all the work though. It's a collective ecosystem effort that includes teams like Midgard Labs, TXPype, Harmonic Labs, Lenta, Sape, and others. Now, next up we have the Plutus proposal, which is being delivered together with Vacuum Labs. This proposal tackles a problem that cadano developers have been talking about for years. Building on cadano has gotten much better of a time there are still areas where the developers feel like they're working harder than they really should. And instead of focusing on just one thing, this proposal attacks the problem from multiple different angles. Part of it is about making Plutus faster and more efficient. Part of it is about making it safer through stronger testing and formal verification. And part of it is simply about making the developer experience a lot less painful. The overall goal is to make smart contracts cheaper to run, easier to build and more reliable once they're deployed. And while we're already talking about developers, there's also the developer experience initiative proposal. This one is also about better tooling, better onboarding, better workflows and cleaner development environments. So if you actually ship products, this might be interesting for you. We talk endlessly about onboarding users, but we often forget that devs are users too. And And if devs love building on your ecosystem, you've already won. Another proposal that passed is the Maintenance Initiative. That's basically everything that keeps Kedana running underneath the surface. So bug fixes, disaster recovery, knowledge sharing, security reviews, infrastructure maintenance, performance optimization, and so on and so forth. The argument from IO is basically that every upgrade we just talked about depends on well-maintained foundation. And that's fair enough. Now, let's look into the future, because the Kadano Vision 2026 research proposal also just got approved. Love it or hate it, but research is one of the reasons why Kadano looks the way it does today. Now, unlike most of the proposals we've covered so far, this isn't focused on delivering one specific feature. Instead, its Kadanos belong to a research and innovation pipeline. The idea is that if Kadana wants to stay competitive in five or ten years from now, we can't just focus on today's problems. It also needs to be researching the next generation of technologies before they become urgent. The proposal is built around three major themes, scalability, user experience, and long-term security. On the scalability side, they will continue researching and validating technologies, like Laos, Paris, Layer 2 infrastructure, zero knowledge scaling, data availability solutions, and even sharding. The goal is to identify how Cardano can continue increasing throughput over the long term without sacrificing decentralization. On the user experience, they're looking at things like light clients, decentralized APIs, developer tooling, intent based transactions and bevel fees. Now, if you're wondering why bevel fees, layers and other things seem to be double dipping on this proposal, well, that's because the other proposals purely focus on actually building and shipping those things. This proposal focuses on the long-term research of those components. The proposal also includes research into stake pool incentives. As Cardano evolves, stake pool operators are expected to take on additional responsibilities beyond simply producing blocks, things like Mithril, Laos and other infrastructure services. This effort looks at whether the current incentive model still makes sense and how rewards could evolve to support a healthy and decentralized state pool ecosystem. There's also a major focus on interoperability, bridges, atomic swabs, decentralized identity, governance improvements and post-quantum cryptography. In other words, it's really just preparing Qidano for a future where security requirements, user expectations and the broader blockchain landscape look very different from today. So when we combine all of this into a, let's say, roadmap for the blockchain, the focus seems to be on building the foundations for the next phases of growth, more scalability through layers and future layer 2 solutions, better user experience through things like babel fees and account enhancements, better tooling and onboarding for developers, stronger security through formal verification and high assurance development, continued maintenance of the core infrastructure and long-term research into the technologies that might shape Cadano over the next 10 to 20 years. Whether you agree with every proposal or not, the overall direction of this is really, let's make Cadano easier to build on, easier to use, more scalable, more secure and capable of supporting significantly more users, applications and economic activity in the years ahead. What really drew me in was the mission: banking the unbanked, giving power back to the people. I invested based on those principles, and I still believe in them. That said, something in Charles's video today gave me pause. When he mentioned that one of his reasons for building Cardano was to be loved and liked, I found myself sitting with that for a while. I don't think there's anything wrong with wanting that; it's deeply human. But it made me wonder about the relationship between that desire and the mission itself. Does the motivation behind a belief change the belief? If someone champions ethical principles partly because those principles earn them respect and affection, does that make the principles less genuine? I honestly don't know the answer. But it's a question I'm now turning over.
