AI visual note: The image, titled "Real Construction Spending Growth," shows year-over-year percent change through August 2026, with data centers leading at +64.5% and manufacturing declining sharply at -23.9%, while nearly all other categories (residential and nonresidential) show steep declines ranging from -5.6% to -14.7%. This visualization strongly supports the accompanying post's claim that interest rates are already restrictive, as broad-based construction spending is contracting across nearly every sector—with single family down 8.4%, multi-family down 5.6%, and total residential down 9.6%—indicating that high borrowing costs are clearly dampening real economic activity well beyond just the housing market.

· 2026-10-08T20:29:52.513000+00:00Downsides to wheeling dividend stocks? I just want to know if there is something I’m missing here. Normally one of the bigger risks of the wheel is that the stock price plummets so far that it can take a long time to get to your cost basis. If you don’t want to increase your risk or you don’t have the capital to start another wheel at that point to lower your cost basis, you just sell calls with a further strike date but a price still at/above your cost basis and wait. Which can be a long time if the price dropped so much that if you want to sell at a strike price above your cost basis then you may be waiting months for the option to expire. But if you wheel a dividend stock that pays out monthly, in that same situation you can keep reinvesting the cash from the dividend payments + the cc premiums to buy more of the stock and lower your cost basis quicker. Are there downsides I’m not seeing besides the general arguments of dividend stock vs growth stock investing?
· 2026-10-08T20:43:51.529000+00:00Doing it the right or not I'm trying I just turning 57 at the end of the year. I've been at my job for going on 10 years at the end of November. For the last two years, I've earned a salary of $64,877.00 as a Federal Civilian Employee at the VA Hospital, not including on call I am mandated to take at 4.65 an hour for at least 28 hours per pay period (this doesn't go towards my retirement fund called TSP). I have a mortgage payment so monthly expenses total about $4-$4 1/2k. My vehicle is paid off but I have one large loan $26K due to major house repairs I currently have $2k in a HYSA, I contribute $497.44 in my traditional, $373.08 in Roth (just started this amount recently), they match $124.36 bi-weekly, I have a small Roth IRA I just started around $900 and don't have a set amount I place in it currently. I currently have $232K in my TSP, not sure the exact amount in Roth. I owe around 60K on my home and place around $150 extra on it a month to pay it off quicker. I will be retiring in 5-10 years (age 62-67) and will have a small pension of around $800- 900 a month minus my insurance (something I want to keep in retirement), I will probably have $200 left over after that expense plus SS.

I want this hobby to remain accessible but it will be less so. This is a combination of several factors: Higher inflation seems to be baked in to the global economy going forward. Covid was the first real supply side shock to the global economy, now it's Iran and national debt levels. With higher inflation comes a greater demand for tangible assets as a hedge.

· 2026-10-08T20:36:16.792000+00:00Boggle head questions Hi All, Quick ask. This group is centered around index investing, passive, etc. totally understand the idea and philosophy. But I’m curious about the name. Naming it after John Bogle? He loves mutual funds because he runs one of the largest mutual fund companies, Vanguard, in the world making him billions. That’s a pretty big conflict of interest. Of course he wants investors to go into index funds…it’s how his firm makes money. Don’t you feel like naming this group after him is a bit ironic? If he truly believed in passive index funds, why did he allow his firm to create over 70 actively managed funds? It is private so…he had a say.
