· 2026-10-07T20:29:32.003000+00:00Three Years in Teaching, One Failed Escape Attempt — and I'm Back Where I Started I quit my second school this summer. At first, I was happy. I spent two months just resting and not thinking about anything, while casually looking for new work. But with every interview, I realized that neither the conditions nor the salary worked for me. Then the rejections started pouring in. That's when the anxiety hit hard: summer was ending (along with my savings), and I still had no job. September came and went — still nothing. Sure, there were options I almost said yes to, but at the last moment, I backed out. Then October arrived. After nearly three months of searching, I found myself in an emotional pit: nothing brought me joy, I lost weight, I couldn't sleep, and I even had dark thoughts about ending it all. In complete desperation and with no money left, I reached out to the school I'd left in the summer — and they took me back. Today was my first day. I know I made a mistake, but I didn't see any other way. I was too weak, and I blame myself for that. I'm in physical and emotional pain, and I can't handle it on my own. So at the end of this week, I'm going to see a therapist for the first time — to help my body and mind in whatever way I can. I promise myself that I'll use this year to the fullest: to learn a new profession and leave for good. But after my failed attempt to escape education, I've started doubting myself enormously. It breaks my heart to think I might be stuck in this swamp forever. I don't know what I want to do or what to retrain in. But I know one thing for certain: I don't want to work with children or have anything to do with teaching.
· 2026-10-07T20:32:57.709000+00:00Is university as a creative still worth it? I (19f) graduated high school last year. I got an internship in fashion styling, and then crashed (and totaled) my car on the job and had to leave obviously. Since then, I’ve been nannying in Europe and the US, as a buffer because I don’t know what to do. I keep juggling between wanting to find another assistant role (but possibly in NYC or Paris) and work my way up in the fashion industry, go to school for fashion design/marketing with hopes to be a creative director, or go to pastry arts school and work in the culinary industry. Each have their drawbacks and pluses, but especially in fashion, I worry that investing any money into education will backfire because of the rise of AI. Art school is expensive anywhere, but because I want to be in a city where it’s all happening, it’s even more expensive. So that circles back to my question, is university worth it? Will I be on the other side of it with a degree and no idea how to get a job? Would I just be better off working my way up with the skills I have now and saving myself from hundreds of thousands of dollars in debt? And is there still hope for creatives??? lol help.
